The threat of online security: How safe is our data?

Posted by memories

In the advanced of technology century, computer and online service are becoming part of our life. We can't live without them as we might have much trouble in the life. These technology have provided us a lot of convenience such as online transaction. Furthermore, we can access information throught the website, have a conversation with friends, discuss and share interest through forum and others.

But behind of these advantages, there are a lot of risk that we may face nowadays and becoming prime targets for hackers seeking our personal information. There are no longer "safe" over the internet. It is also known as cyber attacks. Cyber attacks have several general categories there are accidental actions and malicious attacks. Accidental actions encompasses problems arising from basic lack of knowledge aboutonline security concepts and includes issues such as poor password choices, accidental or erroneous business transactions, accidental disclosure, anderroneous or outdated software. Malicious attacks that specifically aim to do harm are known as premeditated or maliciousattacks. They can be further broken down into attacks caused by malicious code(e.g. computer viruses) or call "crackings" and "hackings" and those caused by intentional misrepresentation.

The most common form of cyber attack is a virus. This is a program or afragment of code that replicates by attaching copies of itself to other programs. There are four main classes of viruses which are: file infectors, system or boot-record infectors, macro viruses and multi-partviruses. Viruses can easily spread to another computer through network or USB drive. Spyware is another program that threatens the safety of our data. It is a computer software that is installed secretly on a personal computer to monitor or control over the user’s interaction with the computer without the consent of the user. Spyware can change computer settings and resulting in slow connection speeds.

It is difficult to determine how safe is out data even though there are many antivirus and antispyware provided suck as NOD32, spyware doctor and personal firewall software. All of these software can protect our data from leaking out but what we have to do is keep on updating the software and our our data will not be easily stolen by someone.
